FInally, this year’s 24 Hour Comic Day event held at Imaqination Maqita School – Seven Blue Artland Studio, running from October 18 until October 19, was a huge success. FYI, we were the only place in Jakarta who hosted and decided to take up on the challenge of this event.

The event commenced on October 18 @ 10-11 am and ended on the next day @ 11 am local Jakarta/Indonesia time. There were a total of 23 participants, although according the online registration there were supposed to be 25 of them. It is alright, we shall wait for those who did not make it this time, next year then! We would like to our gratitude towards everyone in the Periskop crew from METRO TV, ICON Magazine, and the crew or SEPUTAR INDONESIA newspaper, who have come in to cover this year’s 24 Hour Comic Day.

Although the event started @ 11 am, there were a few unlucky ones who had to arrive late or leave early, thus were not able to complete their 24 page comic (I was one of them *runs away in shame*). The names of the participants are listed below:

Komata – Bukan Super Hiro (Not a Super Hiro)
RINY TRI HARDANTY
DWI YUNANTO
ANDRIYANTO
RANDI RAMLIYANA

Furu Supido – Manusia Purbakala (The Ancient Men)

WILLIE YANTO

ZAKURO – Adlib Love

WILLIAM CHANDRA – The Answer

Sellyanti & Erika Ho – Petai Dish Fight

Genma Art – Fog War
KHAKA JI
KURO JOE

ROBIN TJIUW – Night of The Living Fools

HERI LEOPOLD – no title

WAHYUDI L – the 24 HCD Experience

Rianny & Margaretha – Between Facts and Fantasy
RIANNY TJUNG
MARGARETHA DEANNA

Ochi & Rara – no title
ATHYRA ANDYANA
(RARA)
ROSIANA DYATI (OCHI)

DONNY SATRIYADHARMA – The Story of “That Thing”

BERRY CHRISTOPH – no title

The participants’ age range is below 30 years old. Even a few high schoolers made it into the event! It was fun seeing them work themselves to death, and some nice water color shading tossed into their work!

There were 4 event coordinators from Seven Blue Artland Studio (sevenartland.com), they were : Gita, Rie, SYS (that’s me) and Cosmic Afro. The last 3 were also participants. So you can only imagine how hectic things were that day. Gita was a real trooper since she spent most of her time running around taking care of registrations, administrations, food, and scanning everyone else’s works. Photography documentation was taken care of by Ryan Rusli.

The event was very lively due to many participants busy chit-chatting left and right to keep themselves entertained. Some were discussing their story lines, and some were even already busy doodling around while being jacked up with their own earphones/headphones. Imaqination’s class roomwas not enough to contain all participants, thus we had no choice but to
turn our back room into a work room and resting area for those sleepy-heads. When lunch arrived, people took turn going to the back of the office to have their share of lunch. They took turn because believe it or not, there were *those* who’d rather slave and starve themselves to death than have their lunch. Since this event would suck up a lot of energy, us as coordinators had to *force* those stubborn heads to eat first, before they succumbed to various undesired sicknesses.

After lunch, the event went on with many on the verge of falling asleep due to overeating. Towards evening, some already prepped up their own snacks and energy drinks – doping …. was forbidden. I repeat, FORBIDDEN! Even smoking inside the air-conned room was a big no-no, so what makes it OK to do otherwise? Anyhow, dinner arrived @ 7 pm.

Around 10 pm, one of the coordinators, Rie and Ryan, had to leave the premise in order to email the event’s progress and a number of pictures taken to the Main event’s coordinators in the States. We had no internet in the office yet. After that, they tirelessly returned to work again. Around midnight, coordinators handed out midnight snacks (beef buns) so
the number of unwell people could be suppressed. There were already 1-2 fallen victim to draught but due to their medicine, they were able to finish their comics the next day. Oh yes, Donny Satria aka Ksatria who is
based in Banding, was THE FIRST participant who managed to finish his 24 page comic around midnight. Congratulations, Donny!

By 2-3 am, a number of people had fallen and already filled up the resting area at the back. A few female participants would rather had some shut eye on their own desks, since they were afraid they might have overslept if they were to sleep at the back. Already 5 am, we could hear many panicking uproars, worrying they would not be able to finish on time. While that took place, Rie and Ryan, left for a bit to email away some more documentations. Those who had lied dormant in their sleep, rose up around 6-7am.

Participants were boosted up with chicken porridge/congee for breakfast before continuing their races against time. Until 11 am on October 19, the event was officially closed and over-fatigued participants decided to hang around the studio until 1 pm on the same day (unfortunately I did not get to stick around at the time T_T). Us coordinators broke free from the
office due to fatigue and we continued emailing the rest of the event’s documentations to the Main event coordinators on October 20, 2008.

Thank you all who were willing to spend a lot of your time and energy making this year’s 24 Hour Comic day a big success. Hope to see you all again next year!
